Luxembourg midfielder Gerson Rodrigues, whose rights belong to Dynamo Kyiv, has set a historic record for his national team. The 28-year-old footballer, who plays on loan at Turkish side Sivasspor, scored a goal against Iceland, topping the list of Grand Duchy's scorers.

Rodrigues came on the field in the second half and celebrated his goal 56 seconds later. In the 46th minute, as a result of a quick three-way move, Gerson received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and left the goalkeeper no chance.

This was Rodrigues's 17th goal for the Luxembourg national team. Thus, he broke Leon Mart's record, which had stood for 77 years.

The match of the 7th round of qualifying for the 2024 European Football Championship ended in a 1-1 draw. It should be noted that Rodrigues could have snatched victory for his team in the last seconds but failed to score an empty net goal.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

  • On August 2, 2019, Rodrigues signed a five-year contract with Dynamo.
  • On December 16, the footballer was transferred to the reserve team after arriving at training with an alleged overdose.
  • Dynamo sent Gerson on loan to Turkish side Ankaragucu.
  • Since then, the Luxembourg international has played for French side Troyes, Turkish side Elazigspor, and Arab side Al Wahda.

In June 2023, the most beautiful girl in Luxembourg accused Gerson Rodrigueі of violence by posting a photo of their meeting.
