Dracula Castle and Selyska Cheese Factory: Zakarpattia's Khust has something to surprise tourists with
If you're looking for a spectacular vacation in Ukraine, choose a stopover in the city of Khust. The location is known for its natural landscapes and entertainment for any season. The abundance of architectural monuments, modern eco-entertainment and the preserved treasure trove of Ukrainian culture will not let you get bored even in unpleasant weather. OBOZ.UA suggests the most interesting places in the city of Khust and its surroundings.
Dracula (Khust) castle
Few people know that Ukraine has preserved the ruins of a castle owned by a descendant of Vlad the Impaler. The knight lived in Ukraine in the 14th century and had a considerable fortune. A Hungarian king once presented the castle near the modern city of Khust to Dracula. Later, the king made another "gift" that forced the descendant of Dracula to leave the castle and its territory and settle in Transylvania. The Khust Castle or Dracula Castle was destroyed by lightning, which struck the powder cellar. The merciless nature left only the outlines of the walls intact, but the view from the castle hill is simply incredible. In addition to the walls, many legends have been preserved that tell the story of a mystical family and convey the energy that reigned in the castle during its heyday.
Iza village
The village of Iza is part of the Khust territorial community (urban hromada) and has already become famous for its authentic attractions. You can see furniture, decorative items and souvenirs made of wicker in almost every yard. It is unlikely that you will be able to leave empty-handed, as it is hard to pass by such beautiful Easter baskets or comfortable rocking chairs.
The spotted deer farm has become another decoration of the village. It is not only a tourist attraction where both adults and children like to spend time. The farm is a supplier of pantocrin (a medical raw material) extracted from the antlers of spotted deer.
In the spring, flower tourism enthusiasts come to the village, as the famous Narcissus Valley is located nearby, which will provide you with a number of colorful photos.
Zelenyi Hai eco-farm
You can make your trip to Khust tasty and crafty by visiting the Selyska Cheese Factory, which is located in Nyzhnye Selyshche, 15 km from the city. The cheese factory has long been known outside of Ukraine. Its products are even presented at the Embassy of Switzerland. If you want to taste Swiss Gruyère cheese without leaving Ukraine, head here. After picking up some cheeses for gifts, do not rush to leave the village. The neighboring Zelenyi Hai eco-farm can offer mouthwatering bacon, smoked meats, goat cheese and other eco-friendly products.
Felt factory
This interesting spot is located at the entrance to the city of Khust. Pick up a unique winter, spring or summer hat. Kalap is how a hat is called in Zakarpattia. A hat is a great addition to your trip and can also be a great gift to remember the city of Khust.
Warm Waters thermal pools in Veliatyno village
There is a famous health resort just 12 km from the town of Khust. The thermal waters in the resort's pools treat respiratory, gynecological, nervous, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems. You can visit the therapeutic baths without staying at the resort's hotel, just enjoying the procedures.
Staying in the city of Khust, you can see many wooden architectural monuments, up to 10 religious buildings, several local history museums and many options for outdoor activities both on skis and on inflatable (rafting) boats.
