Dovbush star Hnatkovskyi names his "places of power" in the Carpathians: what they look like and what tourists should know
Oleksii Hnatkovskyi, the Ukrainian actor who played the role of Ivan in the movie Dovbush, said that after filming the movie in 2018, he had a crazy schedule, but despite this, he found time to go to the mountains because his "places of power" are located there.
The star shared his favorite locations in an interview with Ukrinform. Among them are the saltworks in Drohobych, the Kukul, Pip Ivan, and Drahobrat mountains.
Drohobych saltworks (Lviv region)
The Drohobych Saltworks is the oldest industrial enterprise in Ukraine that still operates today. The salt is extracted and evaporated by hand, which is probably why Hnatkovskyi likes it so much, "...When I heard that the saltworks was being closed, I bought the last packs of salt. It is so delicious there." The plant also offers tours, so you can go there in person.
Polonyna of Mount Kukul (Zakarpattia region)
"I like to go to Kukul. Not even to the mountain but to the meadow because the area is extremely picturesque," Oleksii says.
The Kukul peak is one of the easiest and most attractive hiking routes in the Carpathians. If you go to the top of the mountain from Vorokhta, you can stop at the Bukovyna meadow, which has all the amenities to take a break, but the most remarkable thing about this place is its swing. In the Kukul meadow itself, you can see not only mountain houses and picturesque landscapes but also buy Hutsul cheeses: brynza, vurda, and budz.
Mount Pip Ivan Chornohirskyi (Ivano-Frankivsk region)
"Every year I climb Mount Pip Ivan and feel fantastic there," the actor says.
This is the place where the first snow falls in Ukraine. At the top are the ruins of a Polish observatory known as the White Elephant, which has been partially restored for the needs of tourists. There are as many as 5 hiking trails leading to the top, so it will be convenient to get there.
Mount Drahobrat (Zakarpattia region)
"I feel fantastic on Drahobrat as well. We shot the movie from a drone there," Hnatkovskyi says.
There is a ski resort near Drahobrat. There are many interesting places here, including the Nature reserve Kuzii, Lake Ivor, and a waterfall. And the top of Mount Stih can be reached by a ski lift.
