Ukrainian law enforcement officers have served a notice of suspicion to Russian war criminal Yevgeny Nikiforov, who ordered the attack on the Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater in Chernihiv with an Iskander missile. The shelling killed 7 local residents and injured more than 200 others.

The commander of the "West" group of troops of the Russian Armed Forces faces life imprisonment. This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the Security Service, on August 19, 2023, Colonel-General Nikiforov ordered a missile strike on the Chernihiv Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater named after Taras Shevchenko. The missile was launched from the territory of the Kursk region.

The victims of the Russian terrorist attack were 7 people, including a six-year-old child. More than 200 people sustained injuries of varying severity. The SBU emphasized that the large number of dead and injured was due to the fact that the Russian missile attack hit the central part of the city. Law enforcement also noted that the explosion damaged apartment buildings, administrative buildings, and citizens' cars.

Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators served Nikiforov a notice of suspicion in absentia under Part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder). Comprehensive measures to bring him to justice for crimes against our state are under way.

As a reminder, on the night of November 29, Russian troops attacked Odesa region with kamikaze drones. Port and transport infrastructure was hit, and residential buildings, outbuildings, and a gas pipeline in Odesa district were damaged.
