Bat nebula "flying on a gloomy Halloween night": astronomers show eerie photo from space
Astronomers have shared a photo of a nebula that resembles Batman from the famous franchise. The celestial being seems to be stretching its "wings."
The Cosmic Bat Nebula is designated by scientists as LDN 43. It is located at a distance of almost 1400 light-years from us in the Serpens constellation, Space.com writes.
According to scientists, the high density of gaseous clouds in this stellar nursery blocks the light of stars and galaxies. Only another, neighboring nebula, LBN 7, is bright enough for its light to break through in sections near the visual center of LDN 43.
X users joke that it is no coincidence that such a nebula was recorded now. "A dark nebula in Ophiuchus, which resembles astonishingly a gigantic cosmic bat flying amidst the stars on a gloomy Halloween night," writes Nereida.
