Brandenburg Gate

The hallmark of the country. The construction was initiated by Prussian architect Carl Gottard Langhans. The construction lasted from 1788 to 1791. By the way, it was modeled after the main entrance of the ancient Greek Acropolis. In the 1930s, it was an important route for Nazi torchlight processions.

We also recommend taking a walk in the largest and oldest park in the capital - Großer Tiergarten. There are many sculptures and cultural monuments here. In particular, the Memorial to the Victims of the Berlin Wall, the Victory Column with an observation deck and the Bellevue Palace.

Keep in mind that to avoid large crowds of tourists, it is better to come here in the morning.

Reichstag

The building was erected between 1884 and 1894. It once housed the German government agency of the same name. Nowadays, the Bundestag, the country's federal parliament, works here. Above the plenary hall is a glass dome, which is not only a decoration but also has a practical function. Its 360 mirrors provide natural light. This makes the building energy efficient.

Before visiting the location, you need to make an appointment the day before. Admission is free, but documents and personal belongings are checked.

Museum Island

The attraction is located on the Spree River. In 1999, the architectural ensemble was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here tourists can visit 5 popular museums.

Pergamon Museum. It was built in 1910-1930. It houses a marble altar from the city of Pergamon, the gates of the Miletus Market, the Ishtar Gate, and an ornamental frieze from Mshatta. Unfortunately, from 2023 to 2037 the building was closed for reconstruction. Therefore, it can only be viewed from the outside.

Bode-Museum. A building in the Neo-Baroque style. It houses exhibitions of Byzantine art and the Mint.

Neues Museum. It was built by the influential Prussian architect Friedrich August Stühler. Here, travelers will be able to see papyri with the famous bust of Nefertiti and exhibits of the prehistoric period and early history.

Alte Nationalgalerie. The gallery exhibits works of various styles. In particular, classicism, romanticism and impressionism.

Altes Museum. The museum has a collection of antiquities, namely, those of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Berlin TV tower

One of the most famous landmarks of the German capital. It was built in the second half of the 1960s and is over 203 meters high. It also serves as an observation deck. By the way, it also houses the tallest restaurant in the city. It rotates 360 degrees every hour.

Charlottenburg Castle

It was built as a summer residence on the initiative of Queen Sophia Charlotte, the wife of Frederick I. The palace was later completed. The main entrance with a 48-meter high dome with a gilded statue of the goddess Fortune is its hallmark. Here you can see the duke's apartment, stroll through the reception hall, and see the collection of Chinese porcelain.

There is also a large greenhouse. Once upon a time, rare plants were exhibited here and festive performances were organized. During the Second World War, it was completely destroyed, but eventually reconstructed. Now it is used for celebrations.

German Museum of Technology

The building was founded in 1982. Here you can visit a special exposition dedicated to the creator of the first computer and a complex programming language, Konrad Zuse. It houses various models of ships, historic airplanes, locomotives, cars, and machine tools. There are also many thematic halls dedicated to aviation, space technology, shipping, and railroad transport.

Sanssouci Palace

It is located 40 kilometers from Berlin. The Prussian King Frederick II used to rest here. In 1990, the attraction was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The location is famous for its unusual grape terraces. Berry vines were brought from different countries: Portugal, Italy, and France.

We also recommend visiting the Chinese Tea House. The garden pavilion was built as a decoration for the summer residence of the ruler.
