An incredible world record set at the Biathlon World Cup

Norwegian biathlete Johannes Thingnes Bøgh has set a world record for the number of victories in sprint biathlon. The 30-year-old five-time Olympic champion's first place at the 9th World Cup in Kenmore, Canada, was his 37th victory in this discipline.

Thus, the 12-time world champion broke the achievement of his legendary compatriot Ole Einar Bjørndalen, who had 36 victorious finishes. Frenchman Martin Fourcade is in third place with 23.

In addition, Bøgh equaled Fourcade in the total number of victories in individual biathlon races (83 each). Currently, the world record for this indicator belongs to Bjørndalen (95).

As previously reported, the captain of the Ukrainian biathlon team, Dmytro Pidruchnyi, finished tenth in the sprint in Kenmore. Our compatriot became one of 14 participants in the race who managed to knock out all 10 targets at the firing lines.

Sprint race winner Johannes Thingnes Bøgh won the Small Crystal Globe as the best biathlete in this discipline.

Bjørndalen is married to four-time Olympic biathlon champion Daria Domrachova.
