An ancient icon was accidentally found in the village of Kropyvnyk, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The parishioners hid the image of the Mother of God with the baby Jesus back in the Soviet era.

The icon was found during a cleaning in an old church, where it was deliberately covered with other paintings. According to experts, the image turned out to be a copy of the Yaroslavl Icon of the Mother of God "Mercy Door," according to Vikna.

According to religious scholars, the "Mercy Door" is an ancient icon that belongs to the Greek Catholic Church and is now kept in the Cathedral of Transfiguration in the city of Yaroslavl in the Przemysl-Warsaw Archdiocese of the UGCC in Poland. The image is considered to be miraculous and was crowned by Pope John Paul II in 1996.

Ukrainian Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary "Mercy Door" On December 8, 2015, at the personal request of Pope Francis, the icon was in Rome during the opening of the Jubilee Year of Divine Mercy in the Catholic Church. On this occasion, copies of the icon were displayed for veneration in all cathedrals.

The Mercy Door was installed in the Church of St. Nicholas in Kropyvnytskyi at the beginning of the last century. And now, after its discovery, this copy will take its place of honor in the new church of the Carpathian village.

On the occasion of the discovery of the ancient icon, the rector of the Church of St. Nicholas in Kropyvnyk, Father Vasyl Hladenkyi, initiated a solemn procession during which clergy and parishioners carried the image of the "Mercy Door" through the streets of the village.
