Absolutely all Ukrainian tennis players left the Australian Open
Six Ukrainian tennis players finished their performances at the Australian Open, failing to reach the decisive stages of the tournament. The athletes played in both singles and doubles, but their journey ended at different stages.
Yuliia Starodubtseva (WTA №100) lost in the first round to Leylah Fernandez of Canada (WTA №31) 5-7, 4-6. Daria Snihur (WTA №138) lost to American Danielle Collins (WTA №11) 6-7, 3-6. Anhelina Kalinina (WTA №48) ended her journey in the first round after losing to Ons Jabeur (WTA №39) 3-6, 3-6, and also dropped out in the second round of the doubles tournament.
Daiana Yastremska (WTA №33) reached the third round, where she lost to Elena Rybakina (WTA №6), playing for Kazakhstan, 3-6, 4-6.
Marta Kostiuk (WTA №18) also stopped in the third round, losing to Spain's Paula Badosa (WTA №12) 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, and reached the quarterfinals in doubles.
Elina Svitolina (WTA №27) was the last Ukrainian woman to finish her singles performance, losing in the quarterfinals to Madison Keys of the United States (WTA №No. 14) 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. In the doubles tournament, sisters Liudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok stopped in the third round.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Svitolina defeated her Russian rival Veronika Kudermetova in the 1/8 finals – 6-4, 6-1. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Elina has been showing impressive statistics in her matches against Russians. Our athlete won all eight matches.
