A scandal erupts in France over a teacher who showed her students a 17th-century painting depicting naked women

In France, a scandal erupted after a teacher showed twelve-year-old students a seventeenth-century Renaissance painting depicting naked women in an art class. Such actions led to complaints from the students' Muslim parents.

The situation was reported by the Dailymail. It states that employees of the Jacques Cartier boutique in the outskirts of Paris refused to work on Monday in solidarity with the teacher who showed the masterpiece "Diana and Actaeon" by Italian artist Giuseppe Cesari.

After false reports spread on social media accusing the teacher of making racist comments, French Education Minister Gabriel Attal personally visited the school where the teacher teaches. He said that the students who made the false statements would be disciplined, and a commission would be sent to the school to make sure that the values of the republic were upheld.

As noted in the text, the students allegedly accused their teacher of racism - claiming that she showed the painting as a provocation and as a means to attack her Muslim students by showing them naked women. This incident, as well as a series of attacks on educators, have heightened tensions and concerns for teachers about their safety.

"During the lesson, a colleague showed a 17th century painting depicting naked women. Some students looked away, felt offended, said they were shocked, and some claimed the teacher had made racist comments during a class discussion," said Sophie Venetitay, secretary general of the Snes-FSU secondary school teachers' union.

According to her, the parents sent an email to the school principal saying that their children were prevented from speaking during the discussion and that they would file a complaint.

The secretary also emphasized that the teachers had previously complained about the poor atmosphere in the school and the lack of support from the management. However, after their colleague's accusations, the teachers informed parents that they would not go to class because of the situation. In particular, they mentioned discomfort and increased incidents of violence.

"We feel that we are clearly in danger. We are supported by our direct superiors, but not by our superiors. This is a real call for help," said one of the teachers.

The work that caused such a scandal tells the story of Greek mythology, in which the hunter Actaeon breaks into the place where the goddess Diana and her nymphs bathe. It depicts a nude Diana and four companions, and is kept in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
