A new hypnotic optical illusion has the web baffled

Experts do not advise looking at the image for too long

A new illusion has struck the web, which, in addition to the usual moving effect, has an immersive effect. This is again a static image that tests the brain and eyesight.

The image was published by The Sun (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the photo). This is a new variation of the already familiar and popular online illusion with wavy lines. But this time, the image gives the viewer a center of focus, which creates the same immersive effect.

If you look closely at the image with the star in the middle of the picture, almost immediately the entire image will start moving. And the movement will occur simultaneously in different directions. Some people may also feel like they are flying through a tunnel.

The effect that creates the illusion in this picture is called "spiral motion aftereffect". It is based on the ability of neurons to dull their response to stimuli and distort reality, creating the impression of movement opposite to what is actually happening, or to cause the feeling of a static object moving.

In general, experts do not advise looking at this picture for a long time, no matter how mesmerizing it is. Because the effect it causes can temporarily affect your visual function, and you may lose the ability to read words for a while. You may also temporarily lose clarity of vision.

As OBOZREVATEL wrote, the illusion with 12 dots on the lattice is also based on the brain's ability to "finish" an image. The spiral lines confuse those who try to see the numbers on this illusion – in fact, the picture shows 7 numbers, but some people see fewer of them, it's all about the contrast sensitivity of the visual function. In addition, the portrait of an elderly man, which, if you focus on it, turns out to be a whole scene with two people and a dog, has gained great popularity.
