A leopard attacked a worker in the Odesa Zoo: the man was hospitalized
A tragic incident occurred in the Odesa Zoo – a leopard attacked a worker who was cleaning the enclosure. The injured man is currently in the hospital.
The incident was reported by the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa Oblast. At about 10 a.m., the zoo director called the police after one of the zoo workers entered the enclosure to clean it and was attacked by a leopard.
At the scene, the police found the injured employee and another employee who tried to help his colleague but found himself in a dangerous situation, unable to leave the enclosure. To avoid further casualties, law enforcement officers used their weapons and neutralized the predator.
The wounded man was immediately hospitalized. An investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident. A legal assessment of the incident will be provided after the investigation is completed.
The Odesa Zoo commented on the incident with the leopard attacking a worker, noting that the reason was a mistake in compliance with safety rules.
Zoo director Ihor Belyakov explained that law enforcement officers were forced to shoot the animal because it was outside the enclosure and posed a threat to others. Previous attempts had been made to tranquilize the leopard, but they were unsuccessful.
According to the director, the leopard, whose name was Casanova, was young. At the same time, Belyakov emphasized that in this situation "there was no other way out."
Earlier it was reported that in Ivano-Frankivsk region, a bear with cubs attacked a man who was picking mushrooms. The victim was seriously injured and is now in a hospital in Kalush. The incident occurred near the village of Kuzminets.
