5 imposed beauty standards that women should abandon once and for all

Kate Middleton and Princess Diana have not had plastic surgery.

Stop following beauty standards. First of all, they are a common cause of low self-esteem in women who do not "fit" the stereotypical idea of attractiveness. In fact, they are charming (they just don't know it!). Secondly, showing the "ideal" human body and appearance is beneficial for business in the beauty industry.

For example, in 2020, wide and thick eyebrows became a trend. Back then, women with thin and sparse eyebrows rushed to salons to have their brows tattooed, colored, laminated, or hair extensions done. Only now this trend is subsiding: the idea that beauty is what nature has given us is making its way through in small steps. In the material of OBOZ.UA, we have prepared a selection of stereotypes about female beauty that should be forgotten.

1. Steel abs

Many women are concerned about their slightly bulging or more visible stomach. After all, in advertising and on social media, they constantly see athletic ladies with steel abs that seem to be free of fat. So, to get rid of their roundness, they torture themselves with exhausting diets and excessively intense workouts. This is more harmful to health than healthy. Everything should be in moderation! Talk to your doctor to find out what body weight and exercise is normal for you.

2. Plump lips

It is believed that women with thin lips look older than their actual age, and with plump lips, they have more expressive and attractive facial features. That's why ladies and gentlemen are frequent guests of cosmetologists who kindly agree to enlarge their lips with hyaluronic acid or other fillers. Forget about this stereotype! Frequent injections of this kind can significantly damage the lips: the weight of the injected medicine stretches and sags the skin tissue, which only aggravates the situation.

3. Symmetrical facial features

Asymmetry is a natural feature of every person's appearance. But some women find it embarrassing. Why? Surgeons and cosmetologists have been actively popularizing facial sculpting to "help" their clients achieve the coveted (or rather, advertising-imposed) symmetry. On the one hand, after successful beauty manipulations, complex women begin to love their reflection in the mirror. On the other hand, you shouldn't focus on (a)symmetry: people around you usually don't notice it or perceive it as a unique charm.

4. Uniform complexion

This is the dream of all girls and women, and cosmetologists and skincare companies know about it. They offer their clients beauty products and appropriate procedures that correct skin tone and visually make it smoother. However, it is worth remembering that sometimes it is impossible to get rid of pigmentation and achieve an even skin tone, as this is influenced by internal factors: the genetic code, cell structure, and hormonal levels.

5. The desire to "postpone" aging

The appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, facial wrinkles, and the first gray hair is a nightmare for many women. No wonder why they rush to surgeons, cosmetologists, and beauty salons to "stop" age-related changes. This is a normal desire! But did you know that human influence on the biological clock is minimal?

The fact is that the aging process depends not only on the environment and self-care but also on the genetic code and overall health. Yes, you can adjust your diet, dye your gray hair, and go to a beautician for delicate procedures. But you shouldn't get too carried away with Botox injections and fillers, which partially "erase" what nature has endowed you with – natural beauty and uniqueness.
