Wide Dnipro, old Podil, and a "parking lot" for steamers on Trukhaniv Island: a unique photo of Kyiv in the early 1900s
Old photographs are an opportunity for us to look into the history of Kyiv and see our favorite city from a different perspective. For example, in this unique photo from the early 1900s, you can see how wide and powerful the Dnipro River was back then, and how there were steamship berths on Trukhaniv Island.
The old photos were posted in the community "Club of the Native Kyivan" on Facebook. Today, this location looks completely different.
"The beginning of the twentieth century. Podil, Trukhaniv Island, and the Dnipro River, which was wide and mighty at the time. Pay attention to the row of steamers near the island," the post reads.
In the published photo, you can see the floodplain meadows of Troyeshchyna, a workers' settlement that still existed on Trukhaniv Island, and there were also berths for steamers. You can also see the old buildings of Podil, and Rybalsky Island looked more like a shoal in the middle of the Dnipro.
We remind you that the official date of foundation of the city of Pripyat is February 4, 1970. It was one of the most comfortable settlements, where the word "shortage" was not known, and all the necessary conditions were created for the recreation of residents.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Darnytsia railway station in Kyiv was built in the late 19th century, which turned the area into a famous vacation spot and summer cottage. The building itself looked like a fairy-tale house thanks to its interior and the surrounding forest.
