"Sonic the Hedgehog" cartoon series and movies have always been very popular. Paramount Pictures has announced the development of the fourth part of the franchise. According to preliminary data, the cartoon is to be released in cinemas on March 19, 2027.
Paramount Pictures emphasized that they had long planned the release of the latest installment, based on the popular Sega video game, in the spring of 2027. This news comes just a few days after "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, selling tickets worth more than $422 million at the global box office.
Overall, the box office of the Sonic franchise, including the acquisition of viewing rights on various online platforms, has now exceeded $1 billion.
There is no information yet on who will write or direct the fourth film, and plot details have not been disclosed. Jeff Fowler directed the first three "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies. Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington wrote the third installment.
The main characters of the franchise returned in the latest installment: Ben Schwartz as the voice of the protagonist and Jim Carrey in the dual role of Dr. Eggman and the grandfather of the mad scientist.
