When to sow dill and parsley to get a quick harvest
With the arrival of spring, every gardener wants to get fresh herbs as early as possible. Dill and parsley are among the most popular crops that add flavor and aroma to many dishes.
However, to get an early harvest, you need to know a few secrets. Proper soil preparation, seed selection, and plant care are key success factors, experts say.
Early dill: the secrets of growing
To get an early harvest of dill, it is necessary to use film greenhouses or covers. If heating is possible, sowing is carried out in the second half of March, and harvesting is carried out in the third decade of April. Without heating, sowing is carried out in April and harvesting in mid-May. Seeds that have undergone pre-sowing treatment are used to accelerate ripening.
Parsley: how to get an early harvest
For parsley, the soil is prepared in the fall by digging it up with humus or manure, and adding phosphorus and potassium. In the spring, ammonium nitrate, superphosphate, and potassium salt are added. Sowing is carried out in the last weeks of April, after germinating the seeds and hardening them in the cold. When sowing in open ground, furrows are prepared, seeds are sown, sprinkled with peat, and covered with a film.
Caring for greens
After emergence, the soil is regularly loosened and weeded, and the rows are thinned out, leaving strong sprouts. Fertilizing is carried out twice: when 3-4 leaves appear and 2-3 weeks after that. The first fertilizer is ammonium nitrate, the second is a complex fertilizer with phosphorus and potassium.
Preparing seeds for planting
For fast germination of parsley, the seeds are soaked in vodka for 15 minutes, then washed and dried. To soften the seed coat, the seeds are poured with hot water for 10 hours.
Experts advise:
- Use high-quality seeds from trusted producers.
- Follow the recommended sowing dates for your region.
- Provide the plants with enough sunlight.
- Water the herbs regularly, especially in dry weather.
- Remove weeds in time so that they do not interfere with plant growth.
