When to prune lavender to make it bloom a second time: gardening expert names the perfect time
Lavender is not just a beautiful ornamental plant that can fill the garden with a wonderful fragrance. It can also bloom twice a season if properly cared for.
Professional gardener Devin Wallien shared on his YouTube channel what you need to do to enjoy lavender blooms longer. Here is his main secret.
Lavender has become very popular because it is drought-resistant, fragrant, and produces beautiful flowers. Although the plant does not require complicated care, it is still important to prune it periodically to prolong its flowering. In particular, to make it bloom again.
In general, pruning should be done twice a year. The first time is in early spring to improve the health of the bush before the start of the season, and the second time is in the summer. At the same time, do not worry that you will harm the plant if you cut it at the peak of flowering.
When the inflorescences bloom, you need to cut the lavender to a third of the shoot length from the top of the leaves. If you do this early enough, your plant will have a chance to bloom a second time in late summer or early fall.
In this case, you can use the cut parts of the plant to decorate your home. Or you can dry the flowers. They will spread a wonderful aroma for a long time, and they can also be used for cooking and drinking, for soothing baths and for other purposes.
