What to make Philadelphia cream cheese at home: a budget option
Delicious Philadelphia cream cheese, which costs a lot in the store, can be easily made at home. To do this, you will need affordable and simple products. The main thing is to have cheesecloth at home.
The idea of making homemade Philadelphia cream cheese was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Tetiana Meleshko (meleskotanya). It can be used for sandwiches and other dishes.
Ingredients:
- sour cream (from 20% fat) - 400 g.
- natural yogurt (from 2.5% fat) - 200 g.
- lemon juice - 1 tbsp.
- salt - 1 tsp.
Method of preparation:
1. Combine sour cream, natural yogurt, lemon juice and salt.
2. Put the sieve in a deep container and cover it with cheesecloth in 3-4 layers.
3. Pour the cooked mass onto the cheesecloth and tuck the edges in.
4. Put a weight on top of the cheesecloth (for example, a saucer with 0.5 liters of water).
5. Refrigerate for at least 12 hours to allow the whey to drain.
6. After that, the finished homemade Philadelphia cream cheese will remain in the cheesecloth.
