Père Lachaise Cemetery has become the most desirable burial place in the world

The Père Lachaise Cemetery in the eastern part of Paris is rightfully considered the most expensive burial place in the world. Many famous celebrities dream of being buried next to Apollinaire, Louis Visconti, Frédéric Chopin and other legends.

OBOZREVATEL has collected the most interesting facts about the French cemetery and found out how much it costs to remain among the late cult figures forever. We will also explain why Ukrainian musicians are interested in the farewell ceremony at Père Lachaise.

Prices

The world-famous cemetery, which first opened back in 1804, is now a park known to Parisians as the City of Immortals. Excursions are organized there to introduce tourists to prominent personalities buried on the territory.

The price of this pleasure is on average 2,500 hryvnias or 85 euros. A guided walk lasts up to 3 hours, during which you can hear interesting stories from the lives of the dead.

It is much more difficult, however, to get through the gates after death. It is known that in order to place an ash urn in the crypt, those who wish to do so will have to pay 150 thousand euros, which is equivalent to the cost of a small apartment in Paris.

Ukrainian singer and frontman of the band Agon Anton Savliepov admitted that he tried to get in line for burial in Père Lachaise, but it turned out that many people had already done so before him. An important factor for him to abandon this idea was the too high price.

The artist wanted to be buried closer to his idol, the rocker Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Door.

Interesting facts

  • The famous 19th-century political journalist Victor Noir, who was shot dead by Napoleon's nephew, attracts tourists to his grave not only because of his achievements during his lifetime but also because of curiosity. People come to Victor's monument to improve their sexual health as it is known that he had an erection during his burial.
  • Foreigners who have been unlucky in love bring flowers and gifts to the place where the writer Oscar Wilde rests. There is a legend that if you kiss the tombstone, the artist will give the person who asked for it a violent romance.
  • Local residents tell of nightly covens of witches and sorcerers that are periodically organized near the graves of famous dead people. According to eyewitnesses, this is both a creepy and fascinating sight.
