Every year, the American magazine People chooses the "Sexiest Man Alive". The nomination was launched almost 40 years ago, in 1985.

According to People, the then-editor of the magazine, Jess Cagle, called Mel Gibson "the sexiest man alive." Readers loved the idea, so it became an annual tradition.

Regardless of their background, the magazine chooses the most successful and handsome men who deserve to be on the special People cover. On this occasion, the magazine decided to recall what the sexiest men on the planet looked like over the past 38 years.

2023: Patrick Dempsey

Patrick Dempsey was named the Sexiest Man Alive in 2023. "I'm glad it happened at this point in my life. It's nice to be recognized, and it's definitely given my ego a little boost," the 57-year-old actor said.

2022: Chris Evans

Chris Evans was named the Sexiest Man Alive in 2022. "It's hard to do interviews," he said with a laugh, "It feels like bragging.

2021: Paul Rudd
