What not to plant near zucchini: you can ruin the whole crop
Sometimes it happens that despite all the efforts and fertilization, vegetables grow frail and small. The reason may be the wrong neighborhood in the beds – crops begin to compete for light or nutrients, or they are attacked by common pests.
Zucchini is a fairly unpretentious vegetable, but planting it in the wrong place can ruin the entire crop. What crops will be ideal neighbors for zucchini and where it is better not to plant them – read the OBOZ.UA article.
Where not to plant zucchini
Zucchini does not require careful maintenance. If you choose the right place, it will be enough to moisten the soil periodically during the heat of the day or to fertilize it before planting.
Some crops will inhibit the growth and development of zucchini. These are, in particular, their close relatives:
- pumpkins
- cucumbers
- zucchini
- squash
- bell peppers.
These vegetables will compete with each other for water and nutrients, so if you plant them side by side, you shouldn't expect a bountiful harvest.
In addition, these crops are often attacked by pests. They can even infect each other with common diseases, which will negatively affect fertility.
Where to plant zucchini
Good neighbors for zucchini are:
- tomatoes;
- cabbage;
- radish;
- corn;
- sunflower;
- legumes;
- onion;
- garlic;
- beets.
Experts say that black radish will have a positive impact on yields, as it repels pests.
Tomatoes will protect zucchini from wax moths, aphids and sawflies.
It is best to plant zucchini in the garden where legumes grew last year – these are natural fertilizers that saturate the soil with nitrogen and improve fertility.
