What holidays are celebrated on November 24

November 24, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine, who lived in Alexandria in the III century and was known for her beauty, wisdom and education. According to legend, the girl had a vision of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, after which she began to preach the faith, attracting many people to Christianity. Catherine lived during the reign of Emperor Maximin. After the girl refused to sacrifice to pagan gods, she was tortured and tortured. Catherine died a martyr's death, but her resilience and faith made her a symbol of spiritual strength and devotion.

The Holy Great Martyr Mercury was a Scythian by birth, but served as a soldier in the Roman army. The emperors Decius and Valerian issued a law ordering all Roman citizens to worship pagan gods. Mercury refused to bow down and was sentenced to death.

November 24 is the International Day of Evolution, because it was on this day in 1859 that Charles Darwin published his work "The Origin of Species". The book caused a real stir in the nineteenth century. Darwin did not coin the phrase "survival of the fittest" to summarize his theory. It was probably coined by the philosopher Herbert Spencer. It is worth noting that evolution is only a theory, not a fact or a scientific law. Evolution simply does not lend itself to rigorous scientific scrutiny, because it claims events that have not been observed in the laboratory and can never be reproduced.
