On November 18, Ukrainian Orthodox Christians honor the memory of two holy martyrs, Plato and Romanus. These courageous followers of Christ gave their lives for their faith in Jesus Christ during the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire.

St. Plato, a young and ardent preacher, traveled the cities preaching the Gospel to the pagans. His eloquence and deep knowledge impressed his listeners, but also attracted the attention of the Roman rulers. After severe torture and torment, St. Plato was executed.

St. Romanus, a deacon of the Church of Caesarea, was also persecuted for his faith. He supported Christians in the struggle to preserve their churches and continued to preach even after he was deprived of his speech. Both saints are examples of unwavering faith and devotion to Christ.

Public holidays in Ukraine on November 18

On November 18, Ukraine celebrates an important date - the Day of Sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This holiday is intended to honor the courage, professionalism and dedication of sergeants and petty officers, who are the backbone of any military unit. Their role in the defense of our country is irreplaceable, especially in today's war.

Although the holiday was officially established in 2019, the tradition of honoring sergeants has a longer history. Sergeants are often the first mentors for young soldiers, passing on their knowledge and experience. They are not only military instructors, but also moral leaders who support their subordinates in the most difficult moments.

Sergeant's Day is not only a holiday, but also an opportunity to remember all those who gave their lives for our country. Together with Sergeant's Day, we honor the memory of all the defenders of Ukraine who fought for our freedom and independence.
