We need "fast cash": Polish farmers demand €15 billion in compensation from war fund from Brussels
Polish farmers estimate their losses at about 70 billion zlotys and demand payment from the European Union's war fund. In particular, the trade union demands that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Siekerski begin the process of obtaining these funds from Brussels.
This demand was made public by the Solidarity farmers' union. It was this organization that organized the blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border and protests across Poland on February 9.
"Today, the Solidarity trade union filed an application with the Ministry of Agriculture demanding to protect the border from the uncontrolled influx of Ukrainian agri-food products and to cancel the Green Deal. At the same time, we want to see protective measures for all sectors of agriculture. We demand that 15 billion euros be allocated from the war fund for this purpose," said Tomasz Obrzanski, head of the organization.
According to Polish farmers, such assistance is urgent, as their financial situation has been very bad for three years. They also say that their warehouses have accumulated a significant balance of grain, and they need "fast" cash to avoid bankruptcy."
In addition, the union said that it had filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office to suspect the police of committing a crime during the March 6 protest in Warsaw near the parliament. At that time, law enforcement officers used tear gas and batons in response to the aggressive and provocative behavior of some protesters who threw cobblestones and pyrotechnics at the police.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, recently, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with Polish farmers who had organized protests. The government and the strikers did not reach any agreements, so the blockade will continue.
At the same time, Poland finally made a decision to import food from Russia and Belarus. The lower house of parliament approved a resolution to impose sanctions on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus, and as a result, Poland will demand such a decision at the European level.
