In the management of VW noted that in order to avoid a crisis situation, the company needs to enter austerity mode. Because of this, the production of some new models - including inexpensive electric crossover - may be at risk.

The details have become known to Motor1. It is reported that over the next five years Volkswagen plans to reduce investment in its own development from 180 billion euros to 160 billion euros. To free up 20 billion will have to save.

In particular, the manufacturer intends to significantly reduce costs in Germany. It was at the historic plant in Wolfsburg planned to start production of the company's cheapest electric crossover. It was expected that the model will appear in 2025. But now these plans have been postponed at best.

It has been reported that the affordable electric crossover will join the manufacturer's revamped electric lineup. The car is technically a variation of the Volkswagen ID2.all compact electric car, which is being prepared as a replacement for the VW Polo.

It is a small car with a length of about 4 meters, a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, a width of approximately 1.8 meters and a height of 1.5 meters. The new crossover can get a range of about 700 km. The novelty is expected as an alternative to the VW T-Cross and Taigo.
