Veterinarian explains how to determine a cat's age in human years in viral video

Many pet owners are familiar with the concept of dog years, but few understand how to calculate a cat's age in human years. Veterinarian Cat Henstridge from the UK explained how to determine the number on her TikTok page.

According to her, to do it, you need to consider the six life stages it goes through. In a video that went viral, she explained the process and why it is important to know how old your cat is.

"It's actually a really helpful question to ask ourselves as it makes it so much easier to ask ourselves about their lifespan and their health in this way," says the veterinarian.

In her video, she refers to the Cat Care for Life chart, which equates a one-month-old kitten to a one-year-old child and a 25-year-old cat to a 116-year-old person. According to Cat, when the animal is six months old, its age will be equivalent to a 10-year-old child.

The expert also clarifies that despite the fact that a cat at the age of one is already almost an adult, according to their development, they are considered kittens up to two years old. Cats become adults and mature at the age of three to six years, the Irish Star writes.

And already at the age of 7 to 10 years, as the veterinarian explains in the video, they can be equated with people of senior age, but not yet of retirement one. And after 10 years of life, the cat becomes a senior and super senior, and the owner needs to be more vigilant about problems such as arthritis, kidney disease, and overactive thyroid.

"While many of our senior cats can remain healthy throughout those years, our super seniors will need some more help," she clarifies.
