Usyk was offered a sensational fight in Ukraine for the championship in a new weight category: all the details

The World Boxing Council (WBC) Bridgewater World Champion Kevin Lerena (30-3, 14 KOs) has offered to fight Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs). The South African, who fights in the intermediate division between heavyweight and super-heavyweight, is ready to travel to Ukraine for this fight.

This was stated by Lerena himself in an interview with the World Boxing News portal. The 32-year-old boxer noted that Usyk is the true embodiment of the sport today. A possible fight against Kevin and a victory in it will make Oleksandr the world champion in three weight categories.

"Yes, I would give Usyk a chance. He's the face of boxing at the moment, so one hundred percent he can get a chance. He can do what he wants to do. I was supposed to defend my title in Ukraine in February, but now the date has been moved to the end of March, which may not fit with other possible plans because of other fight offers, but I've never been offered a fight with Usyk. But I'm ready for it," said Lerena.

It should be noted that Lerena helped Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) prepare for his rematch with Usyk, working as a sparring partner in the British fighter's camp. In December 2022, Kevin lost to Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) in a scandalous fight in which his opponent suffered an ACL injury, but was saved by an early gong.

Earlier, Usyk himself had already named his next opponent. And Dubois threatened the Ukrainian with revenge and called for a rematch, even though he still had to fight Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs).

It will be recalled that Oleksandr defeated Daniel by TKO in the ninth round in August 2023, and the Briton scored with a dirty punch below the belt.
