Ukrzaliznytsia worker dies in Boryspil district and fire breaks out in the capital after Russian overnight drone attack on Kyiv and the region. Photo and video
On the night of Saturday, February 22, Russian occupation forces attacked the capital and its region with Shahed. In Kyiv, a fire broke out in the Solomianskyi district as a result of debris fall. And in Boryspil district of Kyiv region, a crossing guard, an Ukrzaliznytsia employee was killed right at his post.
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration (RMA) and Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko report on the consequences of the attack on Telegram. According to the latter, air defense forces were operating in several districts in Kyiv.
"In the Solomianskyi district, where the UAV debris fell, there is a fire on the territory of private buildings. There is destruction. Rescuers are working on the spot," he wrote.
The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, added that the falling debris set trees on fire in Solomianskyi district and damaged the windows of a nearby house. The fire was extinguished, and, fortunately, there were no casualties.
The Kyiv RMA reported that a 60-year-old man was killed at a railroad crossing in Boryspil district as a result of the enemy UAV attack. He died before medics arrived.
The Russian attack set a warehouse on fire and damaged the windows of a residential high-rise building and an educational institution located nearby. Also, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, a private residential building, a kindergarten, a shop, and 6 cars were damaged.
"Rescuers promptly extinguished the fire at 01:00. The State Emergency Service involved 68 personnel and 15 pieces of equipment. The consequences of the attack on the region are being recorded," the SES said.
The Kyiv RMA clarified that in the Boryspil district, administrative buildings of enterprises, a school, a kindergarten, the glazing of apartments in a multi-story residential building, 5 cars, 3 shops, a private house, more than 20 solar panels, and a police car were all damaged.
The Telegram channel of the Kyiv Region Police clarified that damage was also recorded in an apartment in the high-rise building. The patrol car of the response team of the Boryspil Police Department of the Kyiv region was also damaged.
Ukrzaliznytsia has confirmed the death of its employee as a result of a drone attack in Boryspil district.
"As a result of a UAV attack, our employee in Boryspil district was killed at his workplace. We express sincere condolences to the family and will definitely support them. Trains are allowed to run at a reduced speed there. They are running on schedule," the statement said.
Under the procedural supervision of the Boryspil District Prosecutor's Office, criminal proceedings have been initiated over a war crime that resulted in the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
"According to the investigation, on February 21, 2025, in the evening, the Russian armed forces carried out another massive UAV attack on Kyiv region. Critical infrastructure facilities were targeted. As a result of an enemy attack, an Ukrzaliznytsia employee, a man born in 1962, was killed at a railway crossing. Multi-story buildings, private houses, administrative buildings, warehouses, educational institutions and cars were either destroyed or damaged," the Prosecutor's General Office of Ukraine said.
As previously reported, on the night of February 21, Russia once again attacked Kyiv region with kamikaze drones. Air defense forces were working in the region, but there was damage as a result of the falling debris of the downed targets.
