On the morning of December 9, all border crossing operations were suspended on the border of Ukraine and Moldova. The reason was a technical malfunction in the Moldovan customs database. As a result, the clearance of both people and vehicles was suspended. However, by 16:45 the problem was fixed and the border crossing resumed.

This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine. "Crossing operations on the border with Moldova have been fully restored. The clearance of citizens and vehicles is carried out in the normal mode after the technical malfunction of the database of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova has been eliminated," the statement said.

Earlier, the State Border Guard Service reported that all operations at the checkpoints had been suspended. They immediately warned that the problem was temporary.

Technical problems affected checkpoints in all three regions of Ukraine bordering Moldova. These are:

  • Chernivtsi;
  • Odesa;
  • Vinnytsia.

"At the checkpoints on the border with Moldova, within the Chernivtsi, Odesa, and Vinnytsia regions, the registration of persons and vehicles has been temporarily suspended due to technical malfunctions of the Moldovan customs database. Please take this information into account when planning your trips in this direction," the statement said.

Ukrainians face difficulties crossing the border with the EU country

Earlier, on the border with Romania, the "Solotvyno – Sighetu-Marmaţiei" checkpoint will partially suspend vehicle traffic. The reason is the emergency condition of the bridge structure over the Tisa River and the repair work on it. According to the State Border Guard Service:

  • Vehicle traffic will be suspended from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:30.
  • It is expected that the checkpoint will operate in this mode for 35 days, starting November 22.
  • Pedestrian traffic at the checkpoint will not stop.

"Solotvyno – Sighetu-Marmaţiei" checkpoint will partially suspend vehicle traffic. According to the Romanian side, due to the emergency state of the bridge structure across the Tisza River and to carry out work on its restoration, vehicle traffic will be suspended from 09:00 to 15:30, from Monday to Friday," the statement said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, at the same time, Polish farmers who blocked the border with Ukraine at the "Medyka – Shehyni" checkpoint have suspended their protest until December 10. By that time, they hope to receive a response to their demands from the local Minister of Agriculture, in particular, regarding opposition to the free trade agreement between the EU and South America. If the answer is deemed unsatisfactory, the organizers of the blockade threaten not only to resume it but also to scale it up.
