"Ukrainians give us all a chance": Timothy Snyder tells what will happen to the world if Russia wins the war. Video

The world must help Ukraine win if it wants to see Europe safe. The Ukrainians are giving the world a chance with their resistance, but if the West backs down and fails to provide sufficient support, the consequences could be catastrophic.

Only active support for Ukraine can guarantee stability in the world. This opinion was expressed by historian Timothy Snyder in an interview with AP.

"If you want to have a safe Europe, you must have a strong Ukraine. If the war stops, it will be Europe's time. If Europe does not wake up at this time, everything will be much worse. Not only for Ukraine but also for Europe. With the situation we are facing, Russia took a break and then started the war again. And the United States withdrew at that time," he said.

According to him, we are now experiencing a moment that can be compared to 1938. Ukrainians stopped a catastrophic development with their struggle, but if the world backs down and allows our country to lose, it could lead to new major wars.

"Ukrainians are leaving us there. They are leaving us in 1939. But if we back down, if we don't support them, if we let them lose, it's not that it's exactly the same. But I think we can expect more big wars. Any serious historian will tell you that wars are unpredictable and that victories in wars are rarely what you hope for. And, of course, in a moral sense," Snyder explained.

According to him, the West should focus not only on what Ukraine needs to win but also on how to ensure Russia's defeat. He also criticized people around US President Donald Trump who, in his opinion, do not understand the strategy of this war and its consequences for the world.

"Ukrainians need to decide when it is worth fighting and what victory is. I think if you are a resident of the Western world, you should concentrate on what you can do to make a Ukrainian victory possible. And, not to repeat myself, there is a mandatory strategic issue that Trump's people do not understand. They don't understand what Ukraine needs to win and how to help Ukraine to make Russia lose," the historian said.

To recap, US leader Donald Trump believes that the United States is already making progress in negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine. However, he did not provide any details of the conversations he had with the Kremlin dictator. According to him, they "were in contact," and this will be the first officially recognized talks between Putin and the US president since early 2022.
