Ukrainian tennis player reached the final of the Australian Open
Ukrainian tennis player Liudmyla Kichenok has become a finalist in the first Grand Slam tournament of the season - the Australian Open 2024. Our compatriot achieved this right in the women's doubles, where she is playing together with Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.
In the battle for a ticket to the decisive match of the super tournament in Melbourne, the girls defeated the fourth seeds Erin Routliffe (New Zealand)/Gabriela Dobrowski (Canada). The match lasted 95 minutes and ended in two games with a score of 7:5, 7:5.
The fight on the court was very stubborn, but at the decisive moment the Latvian-Ukrainian duo pressed their opponents. Kichenok and Ostapenko had two service aces, 15 active winners and six breakpoints out of eight.
The final match will take place on Sunday, January 28. Liudmyla and Olena will compete for the trophy with the second seeded pair Elise Mertens (Belgium)/Suwei Hsieh (Taiwan).
It should be noted that 31-year-old Kichenok has a Grand Slam victory to her credit. Last year, she won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon with Croatian Mate Pavic.
