Ukrainian tennis player defeats Russian to reach US Open 2024 semifinals
Ukrainian tennis player Liudmyla Kichenok has become a semifinalist in the US Open 2024 tennis tournament in the doubles. Our compatriot won the right to compete for the decisive match of the tournament together with the representative of Latvia Jeļena Ostapenko.
The women faced off against the duo of Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan and Irina Khromacheva from Moscow, who plays without a flag. The match lasted 106 minutes and ended with Kichenok and Ostapenko winning in two games - 7:6, 6:4.
The Ukrainian-Latvian pair has two service aces, two realized breakpoints out of 10 and 27 won active games. In addition, the duo showed an incredible 87% of first serve realization. They also made six double faults and 41 unforced errors.
Now, in the semifinals of the US Open 2024, Kichenok and Ostapenko will compete with another Russian player, Veronika Kudermetova, who is paired with Chan Hao-Ching from Taiwan. It is worth noting that both duos have already earned $190 thousand each.
Earlier, Ukraine's best tennis player Marta Kostiuk refused to participate in the US Open doubles.
