What to see in Slavutych

Little-known places have always attracted the attention of travelers. Interesting history, unique sights, and an unusual atmosphere. And the lack of crowds is an alternative to packed routes. Today we're talking about a location that is closely related to the Chornobyl tragedy. Read below to find out what you should see.

Local History Museum of Slavutych and the Chornobyl NPP

Here you can learn more about the culture of the region. You can also see an exhibition dedicated to the construction of the plant, the accident and the aftermath. Documents, photographs, and a model of the industrial site are kept here.

The museum also has a collection of household items used by Prypiat residents before the disaster. Among them, you can see a bottle of mineral water produced in 1986.

By the way, Slavutych was founded for evacuees after the Chornobyl tragedy. Its name was borrowed from the poetic version of the Dnipro River.

A walk through the neighborhoods

There are 13 of them: Kyiv, Desna, Tbilisi, Yerevan, Tallinn, Riga, Baku, and others. Eight republics contributed to their creation.

Armenians built a unique pink neighborhood out of volcanic tuff. They also equipped it with open barbecues. Georgians added wooden parquet to the apartments and decorated the balconies with wrought iron details. Estonians built cozy cottages, and Latvians added modern duplexes and townhouses to the city.

The Azerbaijanis added a bright oriental flavor - decorative braids appeared on the houses. They also decorated the entrance to one of the entrances with a huge panel with bright glaze. It depicts stylized human figures and faces.

Brothers fountain

The composition is located in the Riga neighborhood. It was installed in 1989. The author was the famous architect Zane Kalinka, a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Architecture. The fountain depicts conventional figures of brothers sitting at a table. The cultural center is an embodiment of strength and life.

By the way, in some local sources, the sculpture is called Sides of the World.

White Angel monument

We recommend going to the Central Square. Here you will find a unique monumental architectural structure - a symbol of rebirth after the disaster. In his right hand, the heavenly messenger holds a crown of laurel, which blesses the inhabitants. In his left hand is a shield with the star of the Virgin Mary, a sign of her protection and patronage. There is also a sacred stone brought from Jerusalem.

There are benches and a playground around the monument.

Family building

The building is considered a symbol of family comfort. Previously, it was supposed to be located near a kindergarten in the Desna district. Now it stands in the city park, where it was once planned to equip the Civil Registry Office.

Kozuli sculpture

The bronze figures are located in Central Park. At first, it seems that they are located directly on the grass. However, their foundations are hidden underground. The monument was created by Estonian craftsmen led by architect Mart Port.

By the way, the composition is a copy of the work Roe Deer by the modernist Jaan Koort. The original is housed in the Tallinn Museum.

Dream sculpture

The bronze figure was installed between the Dnipro and Desna neighborhoods. It represents the hopes of Slavutych's younger generation for a happy future.

Monument to the Heroes of Chernobyl

On the occasion of the first day of the city, a stone sign was erected here. An inscription was carved on it that says "Low bow and eternal memory". Here, tourists can see photos of the workers of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. There are also portraits of firefighters who extinguished the fire in the first hours of the tragedy.

Entrance gate of Yerevan quarter

Among all the republics, only Armenia has realized the boldest idea of the designers. The country has created an authentic building that has become the hallmark of the neighborhood. Today, there is an eight-meter-high stele and a sculpture of an eagle. The centerpiece of the memorial is a wall with a cascade of fountains, each representing a different type of rose.
