Svitolina, Kostyuk and Yastremska are the best tennis players in Ukraine
For the first time in history, seven Ukrainian tennis players will play in the main draw of the US Open. This year, our athletes surpassed the achievement they set in 2018 and 2020, when the blue and yellow team was represented by six participants.
This is reported by btu.org. Marta Kostyuk, Elina Svitolina, Dayana Yastremska, Anhelina Kalinina, Lesya Tsurenko, Kateryna Baindl, and Yulia Starodubtseva will compete for the main cup of the tournament, which has a fantastic $75 million prize pool.
In addition, for the first time in the tournament, three Ukrainian women were seeded at once. Kostyuk was given the 19th seed, Svitolina - 27th, and Yastremska - 32nd. Starodubtseva will have the most difficult opponent in the main draw as she will make her debut at the US Open with a match against Victoria Azarenka.
The best result for our tennis players at the US Open is the semifinals. In 2019, Svitolina reached it. A year earlier, Tsurenko played in the quarterfinals.
