Titled Ukrainian tennis player withdraws from mixed doubles at Australian Open
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmyla Kichenok and Frenchman Sadio Doumbia have refused to participate in the mixed doubles match at the Australian Open. The reasons for their decision are unknown.
Kichenok and Doumbia were to play in the first round against Australian Ellen Perez and German Kevin Krawietz.
Earlier, Lyudmyla had a successful double match. In a duet with ang Hao-Ching from Taiwanese Taipei, she reached the third round, beating Harriet Dart of Great Britain and Diane Parry of France with a score of 6-0, 6-3. This victory was Kichenok's 50th at the Grand Slam tournament in doubles, a result that no other Ukrainian tennis player has ever achieved before.
Lyudmyla Kichenok remains one of the most successful representatives of Ukraine in world tennis. In 2024, she became the US Open doubles champion and a finalist at the Australian Open.
As reported earlier, Kichenok and Mate Pavić from Croatia won Wimbledon in 2023 in the mixed doubles.
