The titled American could not contain his emotions

David Benavidez, the interim WBC light heavyweight champion, is amazed to learn that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk received $100 million each for their rematch. In an interview with Boxing 24/7, the 28-year-old American called these payments "crazy" and admitted that it motivates him to continue his career in boxing.

"It's crazy, just crazy. They earned $100 million each! It's hard to imagine such money. Previously, we, boxers, could not even dream of such sums, and now, thanks to organizers like Turki Al-Sheikh, the doors for big fees are opening," the light heavyweight could not contain his emotions.

Benavidez also emphasized that such payments mainly concern representatives of the super heavyweight division, such as Fury, Usyk, or Anthony Joshua. He noted that Turki Al-Sheikh is actively investing in holding fights in Saudi Arabia, but the main focus is on popular heavyweights.

"It doesn't matter that Fury and Joshua are not what they used to be. Their popularity in the past still brings them millions," he added.

However, Benavidez doesn't consider Saudi Arabia to be the only promising boxing venue.

"I want to be a Vegas fighter. People in the US want to see big fights too. Of course, it would be great to be a part of such large-scale shows, but we need to keep our fans in mind," he explained.

According to Benavidez, such large fees have become an inspiration for all boxers. He hopes that in the future, large payouts will become the norm for fighters of all categories, not just super heavyweights.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on the night of Sunday, December 22, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury for the second time and defended his titles. The seventh fight of the Ukrainian in the super-heavyweight division ended with a victory on points 116:112, 116:112, 116:112.

When the Ukrainian was announced the winner, Fury's wife's reaction was caught on camera. In addition, the fight was featured in a famous cartoon. And in Russia, they started spreading fake words of the Briton about Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian was suspended from boxing.

A few days later, the video of the fight was blocked following a complaint from the European Football Union (UEFA), which claimed that it violated copyright law.

In addition, there are theories as to why Usyk wore an upside-down Ukrainian flag in his rematch with Fury.

It should be noted that immediately after the fight, a video appeared of what Fury wrote on the flag of Ukraine after his defeat by Usyk.
