According to Hollywood North Magazine, the 2012 film John Carter is still one of the most expensive films in the history of cinema and one of Disney's biggest failures.

It was this movie that led to the dismissal of the head of the film company, Rich Ross, who helped to create billion-dollar films like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Alice in Wonderland, and Toy Story 3. The company spent a whopping $250 million on the Martian epic. The total amount also included $100 million in advertising costs, which, as we can see, were ineffective.

As we noted, Taylor Kitsch played the lead role in the film, which was his first mayor one as he had previously played a minor character in John Tucker Must Die, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and other films where the audience didn't even pay much attention to the actor. In John Carter, he turns into a former military officer who escapes from custody and, due to his own ignorance, is teleported to Mars, where he becomes involved in a conflict between different civilizations on this planet. There, Carter has to learn to walk and talk again. He also gained a superpower: the ability to control gravity, which made him a key player in the feud.

This particular role required Taylor Kitsch to use a wide range of acting skills: from fight scenes to emotionally intense moments. His character is the central figure of the film, and the success of the film largely depended on the actor's ability to convey the complexity and passion of the character. Taylor Kitsch played it quite well, but the movie did not get much success because of the team's mistakes.

First of all, the audience was not very interested in the title of the movie due to the lack of creativity: just John Carter. Secondly, the trailer, which was supposed to interest the public, did the opposite: it was confusing and failed to convince the average person to spend their money on watching the movie.

Despite the failure of John Carter, Kitsch still has a positive attitude towards his filming and considers it a valuable experience. "I still have a great relationship with this movie, which means a lot. I'm not angry, I learned a lot. And I've gained a lot of success from it, personally and professionally. At the time, it was obviously painful, but looking back, honestly, I wouldn't change anything," he told Screen Rant.

In particular, that year, the actor starred in the movie Battleship as the main character, but the popularity of this movie also waned just a few days after the premiere and did not bring the actor any great success. In the last few years, Taylor Kitsch has started to favor filming television series and performances, trying to stay on track.
