The Colosseum, the Sistine Chapel, and the Trevi Fountain are famous and unique landmarks of the country. And by the way, they are definitely worth seeing. But today is not about them. After all, there are attractions that will surprise you no less. So what places are hidden from the general public – read below.

Molveno

A municipality in the region of Trentino-Alto Adige, province of Trento. It is located on the shores of the lake of the same name in the Dolomites di Brenta massif.

Here you can go rock climbing, cycling on specially laid routes, and go to the Molveno Lake Waterfall.

We also recommend taking the local ski lift to the slopes. From here you can admire the majestic peaks, including Cima Tosa.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Crown

Located near Verona at an altitude of 744 meters above sea level. Back in the XV century, hermits chose this area for a monastery. The first church was consecrated in 1530. Later, in 1600, the Knights of the Order of Malta carried out a significant reconstruction. The construction was completed in 1680.

At the end of 1800, the facade of the building underwent significant changes: it was remodeled in the Gothic style and faced with marble from the famous Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan. In 1928, the main altar was replaced.

By the way, the Holy Staircase was built inside the building. It is a prototype of the one in Rome near the Lateran Basilica.

An interesting fact: in 1988, Pope John Paul II visited the chapel.

Today it is reached by an asphalt road that begins after the village of Spiazza and passes through a tunnel in the rock. It is decorated with a fresco dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Dolomites

The Dolomites are located in the north-east of Italy. The name of the mountain range comes from the surname of the French geologist Deodre Gratet de Dolomier. He conducted the first scientific research here.

Interesting fact: in 2009, the natural area was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It stretches for 120 kilometers. The highest point is Mount Marmolada (3343).

There are many trekking routes here, such as Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Cinque Torri, and Lago Lagazuoi.

Braes

The most beautiful alpine lake in South Tyrol. It is located at an altitude of 1496 meters above sea level and is characterized by emerald water. The attraction is part of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies National Park.

After the release of the Italian TV series Un passo dal cielo, the reservoir became a real mecca for travelers, bloggers, and photographers. The huge interest made the local administration think about ways to regulate tourist flows in order to preserve the unique ecosystem.

By the way, you can watch incredible sunsets and sunrises here.

Libreria Acqua Alta

An unconventional bookstore in the Castello district of Venice. Here tourists will not see the usual shelves. Instead, they use bathtubs and gondolas. And surprisingly, not to attract the attention of travelers. It's because the shop is often flooded.

Among the shelves with old books, you can find furry inhabitants of the shop – cats. We also advise you to pay attention to the staircase, which was created from thick volumes.

Civita di Bagnoregio

A village in the commune of Bagnoregio. It was founded by the ancient Etruscan civilization over 2500 years ago.

A strong earthquake in 1695 forced the residents to leave their homes and move to a neighboring town. Today, the location is often called "peaceful". There is a church, restaurants, cafes, mini-hotels, and souvenir shops. Tourists can also buy ceramics and traditional Italian products.
