The sun is not just a star that gives us light and warmth. It is a dynamic and active object, where powerful and impressive phenomena are constantly taking place.

During the unique event of the solar eclipse on April 8, everyone will be able to see one of these phenomena. From the outside, it will look like small explosions, but Space has explained what it really is.

People who will be in the path of the shadow cast by the Moon on April 8 will be able to see the solar eclipse in all its glory. This is one of the few times when you can safely look at a star without protective glasses.

If you watch directly behind the sun's crown, you will also be able to see dark pink towers and loops of electrically charged plasma stretching into space.

A coronal mass ejection is a huge release of magnetic field and plasma mass from the Sun's corona. Usually, this phenomenon can be seen every day if you use a hydrogen alpha telescope. However, during an eclipse, this spectacle will be available to any viewer.

It will take 100 minutes for the shadow of the Moon to cross North America. A mass ejection can erupt just before this and be visible to everyone under a clear sky.

There is also such a phenomenon as a solar flare. These are large explosions from the surface of the Sun that emit intense flashes of electromagnetic radiation.

A flare differs from a coronal mass ejection in that it is located much lower in the Sun's atmosphere, so it will appear as red loops closer to the star's surface.

Flares often occur immediately after the mass ejection, but to be visible from Earth during an eclipse, they must occur in a good location so as not to be blocked by the Moon.
