For this reason, the Holidu team conducted its own research to find out how many visitors there are for every local. This was reported by Express.

5th place - Reykjavik

Iceland's capital, Reykjavik, may have once been an unpopular tourist destination, but it is fast becoming one of Europe's most popular spots. For every local, there are 16 tourists in the city. Reykjavik reintroduced the tourist tax in January after suspending it during the pandemic.

4th place - Rhodes

On the island of Rhodes, there are 21 tourists for every inhabitant. Last summer, some areas of the island suffered from devastating forest fires and thousands of people were evacuated.

3rd place - Bruges

In a beautiful Belgian city, there are 21 tourists for every inhabitant and it can seem very crowded during the peak season. Some locals are fed up with the number of travelers, while representatives of the city's tourism service advise people to visit Bruges off-peak to enjoy the peaceful city.

2nd place - Venice

For every resident of the famous Italian city, there are 21 tourists. This year, Venice has made headlines for its day-trip tax and the ban on cruise ships in its lagoon. Venice is so crowded that the UNESCO organization has even included it in the list of cities under threat of extinction.

1st place - Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, a historic coastal city in Croatia, was the most overcrowded vacation destination in Europe. There are 36 tourists for every resident, and locals complained about the noise of suitcases traveling along the cobblestone streets.
