The winner of Wimbledon 2024 has been determined
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (ATP #3) won Wimbledon 2024, defending last year's title. In the final match, the 21-year-old native of Murcia defeated Serbia's Novak Djokovic (ATP #2) 6:2, 6:2, 7:6 (7:4).
The match lasted just over an hour. The 37-year-old Djokovic did not look like himself in this match and was unable to compete with his younger opponent. Novak managed to impose the fight in the first game of the first set. Alcaraz managed to break only on the fifth attempt, taking a 1-0 lead.
After that, a trademark rout began on the court. The world number three easily took a 5-1 lead, and then took the set on the second attempt.
A similar scenario repeated itself in the second game, when Djokovic started with a lost serve and ended up losing the set.
In the third game, the Serb "woke up". There was an equal fight on the court, which ended only in the tiebreak.
The Spanish tennis player became the ninth player in the Open Era to defend the title at the grass-court major. Carlos Alcaraz has won the fourth of four Grand Slam finals he has played.
Alcaraz repeated the achievement of his compatriot Rafael Nadal, who also became the Wimbledon champion twice.
In 2008 and 2010, and became the fourth tennis player in the Open Era to win four Grand Slam titles at the age of 21 and under.
Mats Wilander, Björn Borg, and Boris Becker have all managed to do this in the past, according to BTU.
