Kyiv during the Ukrainian state in 1918

Old photos give us a glimpse into the history of Kyiv. In particular, the times of the Ukrainian state, when the city was preserved in the photographer's film in 1918.

The old photos were published on the Telegram channel of the "Kyiv Living History" community. You can see what the capital was like more than a century ago.

"Colorized photos of Kyiv in 1918. At that time, the city was the capital of the Ukrainian state, headed by Hetman Skoropadskyi," the post reads.

The published photos show the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi, Velyka Vasylkivska Street, as well as St. Nicholas Military Cathedral, which has not been preserved, and Ukrainian armored vehicles.

As a reminder, the "Lvivska Brama" ghost station of the Syretsko-Pecherska metro line in Kyiv is one of the most favorite destinations for urban diggers and extreme tourism enthusiasts. The unfinished facility of the Kyiv subway is shrouded in mystery and legends.

Until 1979, one of the forgotten symbols of old Kyiv could be seen in the place where the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian people is located today. "The Elephant" fountain managed to survive the Second World War, but not the Soviet regime.
