The web shows what Kyiv and its inhabitants looked like in 1957. Archival photos by a foreign photographer
Old photographs remain an opportunity for us not only to look into the history of Kyiv but also to see its inhabitants. In particular, in 1957, photographer Erwin Volkov took a series of pictures of the capital of Ukraine and Kyiv residents.
They were published in the "Native Kyivan Club" community on Facebook. The black-and-white images convey the incredible atmosphere of the city's life.
"Kyiv, 1957," the post reads.
Ervin Volkov's photos show, among other things, the Pedestrian Bridge, how Kyiv residents were having a rest, and the center of Kyiv.
We remind you that the official date of foundation of the city of Pripyat is February 4, 1970. It was one of the most comfortable settlements, where the word "shortage" was not known, and all the necessary conditions were created for the recreation of residents.
The capital's river Lybid was mentioned in the chronicles of Kyivan Rus in 968. In the 1950s, its channel was not yet hidden by concrete slabs, and a road bridge was built in Vydubychi to allow cars to cross it.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Darnytsia railway station in Kyiv was built in the late 19th century, which turned the area into a famous vacation spot and summer cottage. The building itself looked like a fairy-tale house thanks to its interior and the surrounding forest.
