In Peru, archaeologists have discovered a mysterious building of an advanced lost civilization known as the "Greeks of the Andes". The most interesting find was a 1300-year-old throne belonging to a female ruler.

Researchers also unearthed an ancient throne room decorated with frescoes of powerful women intertwined with sea creatures and monsters. On the walls there is also an image of a crescent moon sitting in a place of honor and receiving guests, TheSun writes.

Researchers have unearthed a unique throne room dating back to the 7th century, the reign of the Moche. According to scientists, the lost Moche civilization, called the "Greeks of the Andes," ruled the northern coast of Peru for 500 years 2000 years ago.

The scientists emphasize that the Moche were famous for their elite tombs, exceptional architecture, detailed artistic depictions, sophisticated artifacts, and rich religious imagery.

That's why there is no blank wall in the found hall. "Everything is painted and beautifully decorated with mythological scenes and characters," said Jessica Ortiz, project manager of the Panamarca archaeological site on the northwest coast of Peru.

But the frescoes depicting a female ruler on a throne have attracted the most attention from archaeologists. According to the researchers, the woman depicted on the throne frescoes is associated with the symbols of the crescent moon, the sea and its creatures, as well as the art of spinning and weaving. Experts even found evidence of human hair and wear on the stone, indicating that the throne was used by humans. "The most interesting thing is the wear marks," said archaeologist Jose Ochatoma.

Next to the throne room, the researchers discovered a room with murals depicting warriors, anthropomorphic weapons, and a monster chasing a man. Ochatoma added that in this room "scenes belonging to Moche's ideology were recorded."

"Panamarca continues to surprise us not only with the relentless creativity of its artists, but also with the way their work upends our expectations of gender roles in the ancient Moche world," summarized Lisa Traver, professor of art history at Columbia University.
