The most powerful production cars of all time: top 10
The times when the term "supercar" automatically meant a large engine (8-16 cylinders) under the hood are over. Now electric cars fall under this notion as well. And the bar of what is considered a super-powered car is getting higher and higher - automakers are literally fighting with the laws of physics for every extra horsepower.
As noted by the publication Top Speed, as ranked the most powerful serial hypercars, electric motors have not yet completely displaced traditional brethren from the list, but are gradually approaching it. However, the four-turbo V-16 still leads the way among the most powerful street car engines. Here are a dozen cars whose power looks exorbitant so far.
The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
1,603 horsepower
The Koenigsegg Jesko is powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. The engine features the world's lightest V-8 crankshaft, made from a single piece of billet steel, it also features a flat-tube design. At high speeds, a special control system switches the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels to improve cornering and stance.
Koenigsegg Gemera
1,700 horsepower
Despite the 2020 Geneva Motor Show being canceled, the Koenigsegg Gemera was unveiled to the public in an online broadcast. It was the first production four-seater hypercar that in addition has a hybrid engine. At the same time, the weight of the powertrain is only 68 kilograms. It is capable of squeezing out 590 horsepower. Engineers combined it with three electric motors (two on each rear wheel, developing up to 500 horsepower, and one on the front wheels, producing 400 horsepower), which together give 1700 "horses".
SSC Tuatara
1,750 horsepower
This hypercar's engine is nothing short of a technological marvel. On gasoline, its V-8 is capable of squeezing out 1,350 horsepower. And it reaches its maximum output of 1,750 "horses" on ethanol or methanol. The maximum speed it reaches in this case is 480 km / h.
The Hennessey Venom F5
1,817 horsepower
The F5 Venom comes in two variants: coupe and convertible. Both have the same stuffing under the hood. Their V-8 boasts 1,817 horsepower and sends power to the rear wheels through a single-speed automatic transmission. The roadster, weighing in at around 1,400 pounds, is capable of hitting the 480 km/h figure, but with the top folded down, its speed is limited. Nevertheless, it will be the fastest and most powerful open-top road car in the world. Only 30 of these cars will be built, each of which will cost 3 million dollars.
The Pininfarina Battista
1,874 horsepower
Battista is the company's first car built from scratch as a production version of the concept that debuted in 2018. Under the hood, it can be found four electric motors driving all four wheels. From 0 to 100 km/h, this supercar accelerates in 1.8 seconds.
Rimac Nevera
1,914 horsepower
The Nevera electric hypercar from Rimac delivers performance characteristics that are even hard to believe. With four electric motors producing 1,914 horsepower, it accelerates to 100 km/h in just 1.85 seconds. Only 150 people in the world will be able to drive this marvel of engineering, because the policy of the Rimac car brand is to support small-scale production.
The Aspark Owl
1,985 horsepower
Italian automaker Manifattura Automobili Torino has been producing this hypercar since 2018 and has planned to produce only 50 units of the Owl. The model's body and chassis are made of carbon fiber with stainless steel support structures. The car has an all-electric drivetrain with a motor on each wheel. The range is about 400 kilometers and it will take only 40 minutes to fully charge the battery.
Lotus Evija
2,012 horsepower
The Lotus Evija is all-electric and has ultra-fast charging. Designers gave it sheet metal fender doors and engineers gave it four electric motors that develop over 2,000 horsepower. A total of 130 of these hypercars will be built, each costing more than $2 million dollars.
The Deus Vayanne
2,200 horsepower
Brand Deus calls the Vayanne a "production-oriented concept" and announces some really insane performance numbers. Which, however, have yet to undergo real-world testing. Information about how many engines and what type will carry this beast has not been made public yet. But the declared power is 2200 horsepower. To accelerate to 100 km / h, he will need only 1.99 seconds, and the maximum speed will be 400 km / h. Deliveries of this model should begin in 2025. A total of 99 copies will be produced.
The Devel Sixteen
5,007 horsepower
If the manufacturer's stated hypercar specs are true, the Devel Sixteen is nothing to even compare it to. The power of 5007 horsepower should be provided by V-16 engine with four turbines - hence the name of the model. Some people are already joking that it will be enough to drive this car on the street, so that all cars alarms will go off. It is expected that the base V-8 will cost from 1.6 million dollars, and the top version with a 16-cylinder engine - more than 2 million dollars.
