Old images of Kyiv offer an incredible opportunity to look deep into the city's history. In particular, this can be done through postcards printed in 1846 by one of the capital's publishing houses.

The archival postcards were published on his Telegram channel by Kyrylo Stepanets, a Kyiv city guide. Today, nothing reminds us of the capital as it was almost 180 years ago.

"Views of Kyiv in 1846," the post reads.

In the published photos, we can see what the center of the capital, Podil, and the slopes of the city above the Dnipro looked like.

Darnitsa in Kyiv was first mentioned in documents in 1509. At the end of the nineteenth century, a railway station was built here, and the area itself turned into a famous vacation spot for Kyiv residents and a summer cottage.

In 1870, the Central Railway Station was opened in Kyiv. Its first building was constructed of yellow brick in the Old English Gothic style.

As OBOZ.UA reported, in the 1960s, the embankment near Poshtova Square and the Dnipro Cliffs in Kyiv looked a little different. And the beaches on Trukhaniv Island were much larger.
