A nighttime rocket attack on the Aurora Hotel in Kryvyi Rih on August 26 killed the former head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, Serhiy Serhiychuk. He was in the city on a business trip.
The tragic news was reported on Facebook by the Cherkasy Regional State Administration, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman, and Serhiychuk's friend Ivan Fursenko. The former official headed the regional administration from August 28 to December 29, 2020. He was also a soldier, took part in the battles for Kyiv and Kyiv region, an ATO veteran, and a builder of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's TRO.
"I was closely acquainted with Sergiy Ivanovich, we talked a lot. He was a man of a good heart, a Colonel, a Patriot, a Defender of the State," said Moshe Reuven Asman, expressing condolences to Sergienko's family.
"We will not forgive. We will take revenge," Fursenko emphasized on his page.
Late in the evening of August 26, Russian occupation forces fired a ballistic missile at the city of Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipro region. It hit a civilian infrastructure facility, the Aurora Hotel in the city center, killing four people. As of the morning of August 28, search and rescue operations in the hotel were completed. The shelling also damaged houses, shops, a catering facility, and vehicles.
On the Day of Mourning for the Ukrainians killed the day before, Russians attacked Kryvyi Rih again on August 28. As of 11:22 a.m., four civilian casualties were reported.

- The Ministry of Internal Affairs showed the eerie footage from the scene of the hit to the Aurora hotel in Kryvyi Rih. As a result of the attack, the four-story building was partially destroyed.
- Ukrainian showman Anatoliy Anatolich reacted to the Russian shelling of his native Kryvyi Rih, which shook the townspeople on August 27. The star showed archival photos and revealed little-known facts about the hotel in Kryvyi Rih that was hit by the occupiers.
