The first Paralympic record belongs to the United States

American swimmer Christie Raleigh Crossley has set her first world record at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. In the 50-meter qualification for athletes with musculoskeletal disorders (class S9), the 37-year-old athlete improved her previous achievement.

Raleigh Crossley covered the distance in 27.28 seconds in her freestyle swim. This is four hundredths better than the result of New Zealander Sophie Pascoe, which she set in 2019. The American also broke the Paralympic record set by Australian Alexa Leary (27.69) a few minutes before her start.

It should be noted that at the start of the 2024 Games, Ukrainian athletes held 45 records in Paralympic swimming. In Paris, our country is represented by 37 athletes in this event.

At the tournament in Tokyo three years ago, Ukraine's representatives won 43 medals in parasailing, 18 of which were gold. The performance of Maksym Krypak, who became a five-time champion of the 2020 Games in Japan and a 10-time overall champion, was particularly memorable.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) refused to approve the uniforms of the Ukrainian national team because of the country's map with Crimea. The day before, our athletes received a standing ovation at the opening ceremony of the Games.
