Former world light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (35-5-1, 29 KOs) suffered a humiliating defeat when he returned to the ring after a 2-year break. The 41-year-old Russian lost to the unbeaten Swede Robin Safar (17-0, 12 KOs) in the undercard of the Usyk-Fury show by unanimous decisions of the judges 90-99, 94-95 and 92-97.

The heavyweight bout lasted all 10 rounds, although it was supposed to end early. In the last seconds of the fight, Kovalev "yawned" with a right hand that sent him into a heavy knockdown.

The Russian fighter struggled to get to his feet, but at that moment the final bell sounded, which saved him from defeat by knockout.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, in the main event of the show in Riyadh, Usyk defeated British WBC titleholder Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) and became the first ever absolute champion in the heavyweight division in the four-belt era.

The next day it became known that Oleksandr would remain the absolute champion only until June 1, 2024. The International Boxing Federation (IBF) will take away the belt because the mandatory title defense against Filip Hrgovic is overdue.

Later it became known that the judge used a little-known rule in the Usyk-Fury fight.

On May 20, Usyk was suspended from boxing and will not be able to hold any training sessions or fights in the next month and a half. The video that the Ukrainian champion recorded for the whole country showed numerous bruises and bruises on his face.
