On the night of Wednesday, February 12, several large explosions occurred in Kyiv. The Russian army attacked the Ukrainian capital with ballistic missiles: fires broke out in several districts, and there was a death and injuries.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported on the work of air defense forces in Kyiv. "It's loud in the capital. Air defense forces are working. Stay in shelters!" Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko wrote.
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration also reported that air defense forces were working in the region.
The head of the KCMA, Tymur Tkachenko, said that as a result of the enemy attack, debris hit and fires were recorded in Holosiivskyi and Podilskyi districts.
"Information about the victims is being established, and the services are on their way. Please stay in safe places until the fire is over," he wrote.
Klychko also reported that emergency services were called to Solomyansky and Svyatoshinsky districts of Kyiv. The KCMA clarified that there were fires on the roofs of residential buildings.
At 5 a.m., the mayor wrote about fires in Holosiivsky, Podilsky and Sviatoshynsky districts.
"In Obolonsky, it is burning in the industrial zone. Preliminary damage to nearby buildings. All services are on the way. In Sviatoshynskyi district, there is a fire on the roof of a nine-story building. No one has called for medical assistance so far," he said.
At 05:22 the first victim of the strike was reported.
"One dead in Obolon district. In Darnytsia district, there is a fire on the territory of a private enterprise," said Klychko.
There is also a victim in Obolon, he was hospitalized. Later, the number of victims increased to two: Klychko clarified that a 9-year-old girl was taken to the hospital.
As of 6 a.m., the number of victims has increased again.
"There is one dead in Obolon district. But there are already three injured, two of them were hospitalized, one was treated on the spot," Klychko wrote at 06:04.
At 07:20, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported four victims of the attack.
Police officers at the sites of the attacks in Holosiivsky, Sviatoshynsky and Obolonsky districts of the capital are documenting the consequences of another military terror, the National Police said.
According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the invaders launched a missile attack on the capital at about 04:30 am. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the commission of a war crime that resulted in the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
"So far, we know about one deceased in Obolon district of the capital - a man born in 1985. As a result of the enemy attack, a fire broke out in a business center building in Obolon district and a fire in warehouses in Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, as well as a fire on the roof of a house in Sviatoshynskyi district of the capital. Parked cars were damaged in the yards of the buildings. Emergency services and law enforcement officers are working on the spot to record another war crime of the Russian Federation. The exact number of victims is being established," the statement said.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the SBU Main Directorate in Kyiv and Kyiv region.
The State Emergency Service reported that a fire broke out in an office building in the Obolon district, with flames spreading from the 7th to the 1st floor. As of 06:15, the fire was extinguished. Another office building was damaged.
According to Suspilne TV, after the attack, the power went out in part of Obolonsky district.
In Holosiivskyi district, a large-scale fire broke out in a two-story warehouse building, spreading to an area of 600 square meters.
Debris of downed targets fell in Svyatoshynskyi district, there were no casualties. There was also a fire on the roof of a high-rise building. The fire was extinguished by 6 am.
In Solomyansky district, a fire broke out on the roof of an apartment building.
"In total, more than 80 rescuers and 17 units of fire and rescue equipment are working at the scene," the SES emphasized.
Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak reacted to the attack.
"Russia launched a missile strike on Kyiv and Kyiv region, air defense/ballistic missile defense worked on ballistics. This is how Putin wants the war to end," he wrote.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets called on the international community to hold Russia accountable for its war crimes in Ukraine.
"Russia is acting insidiously and with a sense of impunity, attacking Ukrainian cities while civilians are in their homes. These attacks are a war crime for which the aggressor must be held accountable!" he said.
The Ukrainian Air Force warned of the threat of ballistic missile attacks from the northeast. Monitoring channels reported that the enemy launched missiles from the territory of the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation.
After the attack was over, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that at night and in the morning Russia sent 7 ballistic missiles and 123 drones at our country: air defense forces shot down six missiles and 71 UAVs.
